This weekend, Ivano-Frankivsk hosted an open all-Ukrainian youth wrestling tournament dedicated to the veterans of Prykarpattia wrestling. This year, the memory of fallen defenders of Ukraine was also honored at the tournament.
50,000 hryvnias for the coordination center for the support of the Precarpathian divisions of Save Ukraine Now (SUN) were donated by the organizers of the XII All-Ukrainian youth wrestling tournament!
“Congratulations to everyone involved in the wrestling family. First of all, I would like to thank our defenders for the fact that we have the opportunity to meet here today. Today, each of us needs to take an example from the wrestlers.
After all, they are the ones who represent our country at international competitions and show the indomitability of Ukraine,” said the head of the Ukrainian Wrestling Association Yuriy Kopytko.
Young wrestlers from all over Ukraine, as well as from Europe, come to the event every time. However, this year, due to the full-scale invasion of Russia, only wrestlers from Ukraine took part in the competition.
The main idea of the tournament, in addition to the development of wrestling, is a “bridge” between the older generation – sports veterans and young wrestlers who are just starting their sports career.
“I am incredibly glad that today we have the opportunity to hold this youth tournament. It was thanks to our soldiers that we were able to resume these competitions. I am sincerely grateful to the veterans who repeatedly trained each wrestler and helped at the right time.
You will always be an example for us,” said the Deputy Head of the Wrestling Association of Ukraine, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Eduard Proshchuk.
During the tournament, cadet athletes (born in 2006-2008) and younger boys (born in 2011-2013) competed.
